Before reduced-hours childcare work: schedule, employer pay and insurance benefit

Employer approval of reduced hours and approval of the employment-insurance benefit are separate. Confirm schedule, pay components and support eligibility.

Separate use eligibility from benefit eligibility

Work24 describes reduced-hours childcare work for a child aged 12 or under or in elementary grade 6 or below, with a reduced schedule between 15 and 35 weekly hours. Check statutory exceptions, including less than six months of continuous service. Confirm your available duration from earlier childcare leave and reduced-hours use under the applicable law.

Insurance benefit also depends on insured qualifying days, use duration and application timing. Employer approval does not automatically approve financial support. This guide does not determine your maximum duration or personal benefit amount.

Worked schedule: 40 weekly hours become 30

Assume five equal workdays and an unchanged one-hour lunch break, excluded from work time.

Start and finish09:00–18:0009:00–16:00
Break12:00–13:0012:00–13:00

Weekly work40 hours30 hours
Weekly reduction—10 hours

A planned early finish is not enough if meetings or daily requests consistently extend work. Agree meeting hours, handover, workload and communication expectations.

Do not combine employer pay and support into one assumption

Example · A separately stated proportional-pay assumption

  • Assume the whole KRW 3.2m fixed monthly amount is confirmed to change in proportion to hours.
  • Employer-pay illustration: 3,200,000 × 30 ÷ 40 = KRW 2,400,000.
  • The KRW 800,000 difference is not automatically the insurance benefit.
  • Check each allowance, ordinary-wage base, applicable limits, covered period, tax and insurance separately.

Use current official benefit guidance and simulation for the applicable start date. Salary payday and benefit receipt may differ, so include timing in your household cash plan.

Prepare the two applications

  1. Record the child eligibility basis, intended dates and prior childcare leave and reduced-hours use.
  2. Write the before-and-after workdays, start/finish and breaks, then confirm the written employment change.
  3. Itemize salary, allowances and bonus changes and how extra work will be handled.
  4. Agree who prepares employer confirmation and wage records for the benefit application.
  5. Confirm notification steps for changes, early termination and return to normal work.

Ask the right organization

Ask HR for the approved 30-hour schedule, changed wage items, handover and employer documents. Ask the employment center to check insured qualifying days, earlier use, the application window, required evidence and applicable limits. These are estimates for reference, not legal or tax advice. A 75% salary illustration alone cannot determine combined take-home income.
