A practical resignation checklist in Korea

Before leaving, confirm the last employment day, annual leave and final pay. Then check insurance status, required documents and statutory settlement deadlines.

Before the last day

Confirm the agreed last day of employment in writing. Reconcile accrued and used annual leave, outstanding pay, bonuses, expense claims and company property. Keep copies of contracts and payslips.

Final settlement

Wages and other money due are generally to be settled within 14 days after retirement unless the parties validly agree otherwise under the applicable rule. Confirm the amount and date of severance separately.

Social insurance status

Check when each insurance qualification ends, how the last month’s contribution is handled, and whether a new employer or individual coverage needs action.

Documents to keep

Request or retain a certificate of employment, wage and tax statements, retirement-payment records and any papers needed for unemployment benefits if applicable.

Small workplaces

Some Labor Standards Act provisions vary by regular workforce size, but not every protection disappears below five employees. Check the specific rule instead of using a blanket assumption.
